Real Madrid moved closer to winning the La Liga title for second year in a row when the defeated Racing Santander.That’s puts them 10 points ahead of Villarreal with only 5 games left.Racing started the better & got 2 corners early on but they came to nothing.It was Raul with the first chance of the game after 14 Min’s when he stuck out his big toe to poke a cross from Robinho passed Tono to put them into the lead.Real got more confident after going a goal up when Sneijder fired just over the bar & Raul should have scored but got dispossessed by Cesar Navas.Then on 36 min Racing has a chance when Mohamed Tchite got one on one with Casillas but he failed to really test him.Racing were now getting into the game more & more towards the end of the half when Navas had a header that just missed.Racing now had a eye on a equalizer and the champions league spot. This hard fought derby ended in another win for king kev.It was Sunderland who started the harder as Paul McShane smacked into Michael Owen after just a few minutes.But Owen got his own back when McShane gave him a unopposed run into the box to meet Geremi’s cross & put Newcastle one up.McShane then had a bazaar header into his own net from a corner wiped out by the ref’s whistle for a infringement. Martins was then guilty of being selfish as he took a shot when he had a line of team mates waiting for him to square the ball then Dean Whitehead had a chance but volleyed it over the bar.Sunderland were lucky to be only one down but not for long as Owen played a lovely one/two with Viduka then chipped over the defender Higginbotham but on the way through it clipped his arm & the ref gave a penalty.Owen stepped up & just got it past Gordon’s body but it had enough power to do so. Man City kept up there slim chance of uefa cup football next season with a big win over 10 men Portsmouth.It was Portsmouth who started the better when Papa Bouba Diop had a 40 yard shot which stinged the hands of the Man Ciy goal keeper Joe Hart after 3 Min’s.Then from the corner Sylvain Distin miss a opportunitywith a header.Then a comedy of errors gifted Man City the opening goal Sol Campbell looked like it had a long ball in control but found David James 10 yards out side the box trying to clear his lines.Both of them didn’t know what to do next which let in Benjaniwho passed to Ireland who took a shot which he miss hit & with some luck it fell to Vassell who scored from 3 yards out.Then it took only 3 min later when Petrov had a snap shot which took a wicked deflection of Campbell’s leg & into the bottom corner.Portsmouth then fought back & on 24 Min’s they got a goal back when Utaka’s looping header went over Joe Hart & into the net even though Man City thought he was off side but it showed Petrov was playing him on.Then in the 41st min Portsmouth was down to 10 men when Hreidarsson impeded Vassell as he ran onto a through ball from Ireland & the ref gave him a straight red card.Vassell then brought out a world class save from James just before half time with a curling left foot shot. Aston Villa Outclassed a poor Birmingham as they now fall deeper into relegation.It was Birmingham who started of the best in the first half but could only muster a shot from David Murphy and didn’t really trouble Scott Carson . Aston Villa then got a grip on the game especially in midfield when Gareth Barry and Carew both went close.Stiliyan Petrov then went very close with a shot the moved all over the place and gave the keeper problems.The pressure told as Olof Mellberg mishit a shot and fortunately bounced right into Ashley Youngs path and smashed a shot past Taylor and right into the bottom corner.Birmingham then had a chance to come straight back when Nafti beat two players but shot over the bar.Villa went further ahead just before half time when Ashley Youngs cross was met by Carew’s head and it went straight into the net from point blank range. What a game this was a little Almeria turned over Sevilla.The first half started with Sevilla hammering at Almeria’s goal and missed chance after chance and should really be well ahaed.But on 24min the unthinkable happened when Daniel Alves headed a harmless cross straight into his own goal.The on 31 min Almeria was awarded a doubious penalty which was then missed by Alvaro Negredo.
