Everton finished the season on a high & cemented Uefa cup football next season with this last day home win over Newcastle. It was just what Everton deserved after fighting all the way to stay in the top five in the premiership & a team that seems to be getting better & better every season. For Newcastle its time for rebuilding & I’m sure Kevin Keegan will have his say on who stays & who goes & on the type of players he wants to make Newcastle a better team for next season & a top 6 side.

The game started at a good pace with Everton knowing they had to be better than Aston Villa to keep the fifth spot. But it was Newcastle who had the first chance as Enrique made a lovely pass to N’Zogbia who made a cross into the box but Tim Howard failed to hold on to it & it needed the new England man Phil Jagielka to get the ball away.Howard was called into action again when he had to move sharply & drop onto the football after a snap shot from Andy Carroll.
Everton started to get into the game & it was there top scorer Yakubu who had the first chance when he showed some nice skill when he got past Nicky Butt & Damien Duff but he could only sent his shot wide.N’Zogbia then put in a beautiful cross that just needed a touch from any Newcastle player but there was no-one there to oblige. Then with that Newcastle chance going begging it was Everton who took there’s & the lead of the football match.

Damien Duff caused the foul on Osman that gave him a free kick it was taken by Manuel Fernandes who floated in a perfect free kick & there was Yakubu to header home into the goal to put Everton in front. It was nearly a free kick that Brought Newcastle back into the game when a N’Zogbia who was Newcastles best player on the pitch took it & it only just dipped over the bar.Steve Harper then was called into action when he had to save twice from Anichebe then watched helplessly when Yobo headed well over from only six yards out.Everton were finishing the first half on top & nearly scored a second when Osman stole through only for Harper to deny him.             David Moyes Interview

The second half started with Newcastle drawing level within the first minute after all the hard work Everton had done it was Yobo who made the mistake but doing a reckless challenge in the box & the ref had no choice but to award the Penalty that Owen stepped up & scored from but it was only just as Howard guessed the right way but it went underneath his body.Everton knew a draw was going to be enough for the fifth spot but they didn’t want to let the home fans down .

So they went in search of getting the result & this made Newcastle aware & it was thanks to Harper to keep the score level. It was Fernandes with two superb free kick they were saved by Harper  he was getting better & Fernandes was getting to be the player Everton saw last season & one they hope they will keep as his control of midfield was running the game. The weather then started to get worse as it rained harder & started to thunder.

Newcastle then started to pass the football nicely & had most of the possession but it didn’t do them much good as Everton then took the lead.It was yet another free kick that did the damage Carsley this time was fouled by Owen who then got up & tapped the free kick to Fernandes who sent in fantastic cross which was meet at the far post by Lescott who smashed the ball into the net. That goal would have made a premiership striker proud & that was his tenth for the season & for a defender the best in the premiership.

Everton now knew they were going into Europe again & that Uefa cup spot was there’s & they went on to seal it moment later when Osman burst into the box but was tripped on his way & the ref gave him a penalty. This was Everton’s first penalty of the whole season so it was up to Yakubuto step up & slot the ball home ot give them there third & Yakubu’s 21st of the season Well Done Everton!!!!
