Croatia 1 Turkey 1 A.E.T Turkey Win 3-1 on Penalties

Turkey will meet Germany in the first semi-final on Wednesday when they produced a stunning equaliser & they were the better side at the penalty shoot out. Croatia thought they had won the game when they scored right at the end of extra time but Turkey now known as the team that never dies did just that. The game itself was awful & i couldn’t believe Croatia was the same team i had bin watching so far but it was either poor play by Croatia or Turkey got it tactically right either way i nearly fell asleep but here goes..
The match started with lots of action by both teams Modric had a shot after only the third minute but it was deflected wide by one of his own players two minuted later it was Turkeys turn when Nihat set up Hamit Altintop but he could only fire wide. Then Srna got into the box but his shot was deflected wide nothing came of the corner then Tuncay had a chance for Turkey but his poor shot was straight at the keeper Pletikosa. It went quite after then but then ten minuted later Croatia had the best chance of the match & should have taken the lead Modric broke into the box put in a perfect cross & there was Olic from four yards out to tap in but somehow could only smash it against the crossbar & over how did he manage that!!!.
Modric again was involved a few minuted later when he made a nice pass to Pranjic who ran into the box but his pass went behind everyone who was waiting in the penalty area. Turkey were hanging back a bit but Hamit did break clear but his pass couldn’t find Nihat so the play was broken up. Then Tuncay had the football & broke into the box but he was kind of baulked by Simic & there where calls for a penalty but the ref waved it away then we had the best shot of the night when Topal collected the football in midfield & let rip a almighty shot from all of 35 yards & saw his shot curl just wide of the post which had the Croatia keeper Pletikosa beaten then rest of the half not much happened & they went in nil nil at the break.
The second half started with Croatia looking to start well & they did Oilc got into the box & got a header in but it went over because i think he thought Rustu was coming out but he didn’t then they had a corner but that was just headed over & wasted after some more good play by Croatia Olic got into the penalty area & put it into the net but was ruled off side Corluka then had a funny cross come shot that went over & Turkey wasn’t really in the game but some of the finishing was very good either. Like in the seventy minute it was good work by Pranjic who played a one two with Olic but he could only fire it over the bar as last Turkey had a chance but that was also wasted when Nihat made a lovely pass to Hamit but he could only Miss control it.
With ten minuted left surly one of the teams would push for the winner & only Croatia looked like doing this Srna had a free kick but it produced a fantastic save from Rustu with the resulting corner being headed over Nihat had a chance for Turkey but his cross was blocked then Modric again down the right crossed in to Olic & Rustu saved Turkey again. He was in action again moments later when he saved another Srna free kick & then watched as Olic put his shot over the bar so it was extra time for the first time in the Euro2008 championships could it get any better?..
Extra time started with Croatia on the attack with Pranjic running into the penalty area but was stopped by a good tackle but he claimed for hand ball not given Tuncay then went up the other end & ran through the defence & to the byline of the penalty area but the keeper Pletikosa was alert & put it out for a corner. The there was like a game of head tennis in the Croatia penalty box as both teams struggled to get hold of the football but in the end Corluka hacked it clear. Towards the end of first half of extra time Turkey had to chances with Tuncay & Senturk both shooting over.
The second half of extra time started with a Croatia free kick then came to nothing & the Turkey got into the penalty box with Turan but his cross was blocked by Modric then with 3 minuted left of the match before penalties it all went mad!!. Turkey had a corner that was headed over by Zan when he should have done better then after two hours of football what we had all been waiting for a goal in fact two in two minutes first Modric the best player on the night collected the ball had a shot but it went to the edge of the area so hee ran to collected it but for some reason Rustu came out after him be he had time to collect & put it back into the box & there was Klasnic to head the ball into a empty net to put them one nil up & the Croatian bench were jumping up & down thinking they had won. But Turkey had other ideas they had a free kick that Rustu took very quickly pumped it into the box & there was Senturk to smash it into the net to equalise then the whistle went for the end of the football match amazing!!!
So we had penalties & you could see Croatia were stunned by that goal & it showed. Croatia took first it was man of the match Modric but he missed putting it past the post. Turan stepped up for Turkey scores Srna for Croatia scores Senturk for Turkey scores Pranjic for Croatia misses put it past the post Altintop for Turkey scores they are perfect so far then Petric stepped up & his penalty was saved by Rustu putting Turkey in the semi finals against Germany…
