Spain 0 Italy 0 A.E.T Spain Win 4-2 On Penalties

Spain make it through to the Euro2008 semi finals after a bore draw against Italy but went through on the penalty shoot out. Spain played the better football & looked to attack when they could but with Italy from the first whistle looked like they were playing for penalties put 10 men behind the football when ever they could but thankfully for the good of football Spain made it through.
The match started with both teams not really pushing each other to much & were very patient Di Rossi had a free kick which went straight to the keeper Casillas then Spain had a few chances as they were playing the better football Silva had a chance when he cut in from the left but his shot was deflected wide then they could have had a penalty when Villa was brought down in the box but the ref said no penalty but with the tv replays you could see he was caught. Torres then broke into the Italian box but his cross was very wild then they exchanged chances Perrotta headed straight at Casillas & Ambrosini put in a good cross but Toni got nowhere near it when it needed a touch. Villa had a shot all from 45 yards but was well wide then a free kick which was saved by Buffon he was called into action again moments later when he had to save from a Silva shot.
Spain where finding it hard to break Italy down & With Iniesta & Xavi both having shot going over the bar the game started to be a non event. With Italy constantly getting 10 men behind the ball it was hard to get into the football match but we had some action in the next 10 minutes.Cassano put in a good cross which Toni headed but it was defended then Spain had a very good chance Torres turned one way then another put in a shot which was blocked but it came to Silva who cut inside but his shot beat Buffon but curled just wide of the post. Di Rossi then had a free kick which was headed out for a corner & the resulting corner by Cassano was headed clear by Puyol The last chance of the half went to Iniesta when he had a one two with Villa but he dragged his shot wide & that was the end of the half…
The second half started with me hoping it would be better then the first Silva had the first chance but his shot was blocked Grosso whipped in a good cross but Toni was off side then Spain started to ex cert some pressure Villa was in the clear down the right but his cross was awful Torres then wasted a chance after his good work but he couldn’t find Villa then Xavi had a corner the was headed out but Silva collected but shot over. Then Italy should have taken the lead the football came in for Toni he headed the ball but Spain found it hard to clear & with it the ball bouncing in the box Camoranesi got the ball took a shot &it was brilliantly save by Casillas with his legs. Villa the had a free kick which was deflected wide & Ramos then had a shot which was well over. Zambrotta the got down the left & his cross was headed wide by Toni.
It looked like no one was going to score With Ramos shooting straight at the keep & Senna having a free kick punched away by Buffon but we had some excitement after 80 minutes when Senna took a shot which Buffon looked to have saved but he spilt it & it went behind him but hit the post & went straight back to him. With about 9 minutes left it looked like both team had settled for extra time Zambrotta put in a cross which Toni over head kick went over Villa then got free put in a pass to Guiza who went to shot but was adjudged to have hand ball Spain had a corner at the death but was cleared & the ref had seen enough & blew his whistle & we were at extra time again..
First half of Extra time started with Spain showing some effort Silva free kick found Ramos & he was brought down no penalty then Villa crossed to Guiza who headed back to Fabregas but his shot was blocked it came to Silva but he shot wide. Italy had one chance when Grosso put in a cross Di Natale header but Casillias saved then Spain appealed for another penalty when Fabregas was brought down but got waved away Guiza then got into the box but he put his shot wide & Fabregas wasted a free kick & that was the end of the first half of extra time.
Second half started with a Grosso free kick which was wasted the Silva put Villa through on goal but Buffon came out to save Silva was involved again but he could only waste his cross & penalties was on the cards which is what the Italians wanted. Di Natale had two good chances but they were defended well by Spain Guiza then put a shot over & Cazorla then put in a cross come shot & the match was over & penalties where on there way…
Penalties
Villa stepped up & scored for Spain, Grosso for Italy scores, Cazorla for Spain scores, The Di Rossi stepped up & had his penalty saved, Senna for Spain scores, Italy needed this & Camoranesi scored, Guiza the stepped up for Spain & Buffon saved, but it didn’t end there as Di Natale stepped up & Casillas pulled off a good save , so all it needed was the Arsenal player Fabregas to stepped up & score which he did & send Spain into the semi finals……
