Turkey produced a amazing comeback after being two goals down & not looking likely to pull it off in the exciting football match. Both teams new that a draw would bring penalties to decided who went through to the last eight for the first time in Euro finals history but the Czechs weren’t having none of that how they started but the Turk’s had the last laugh & something you would never see by the best goal keeper in the world.
The game started with the Czechs making all the play & seizing the opportunity as early as the second minute when Jankulovski fired over then Plasil wasted a shot from a corner. Tuncay then had a chance but his shot of all of 30 yards went well wide but the Czech looked more menacing & could have scored when Servet had to do some stern defending to keep out Sionko’s cross with Koller looking to score Sionko again had a shot always rising from the edge of the box then failed to meet a dipping cross but Volkan had it covered but Koller then made his presence felt with the opening goal.
It was Grygera who got down the right & put in a great cross & there was Koller who headed it into the net even though Volkan got his hand to it. Turkey did get a small chance from a Nihat free kick but Servet could only head it over while up the other end Koller managed to head over a good chance from a lovely free kick. Turkey were finding it hard to get into the game & match the Czechs attitude & passion to make the quarter finals so went into the break one nil down.
Turkey came out for the second half know they had to go all out to keep them selves in Euro2008 Turan put in a good cross but Polak headed it out then Tuncay saw his header saved by Cech then Senturk broke into the box but his cross was poor. Koller was then put through on goal he had the Pace but his shot was weak & wide but Plasil then put the Czechs two up when he stole in behind the defender to meet Sionko’s cross & forced the ball past Volkan to score. Turkey was mad on the side lines as they were trying to put a sub defender on as Gungor was injured so they conceded the goal with ten men.
Polak then hit the post with a shot & his follow up header was saved by Volkan he really should have scored & put the Turks out of reach. Turkey the got back into the game as Altintop crossed across the box & there was Turan who placed the football passed Cech. Altintop then produced another cross but Servet failed to meet the cross & should have got the equaliser but it didn’t take long as Cech made the most horrendous mistake you will see & not one from a top class keeper. Altintop got in another cross which Cech seemed to have covered but he dropped it right in front of Nihat who poked the ball home to equalise & penalties looked a certainty.
But Turkey wasn’t finished a long kick by Volkan found Tuncay who in turn pass to a on side Hihat & produced a fantastic finish & put it past Cech to give Turkey the win & the quarter final place which didn’t look theirs 30 minutes ago. They even had time for Volkan to be sent off for pushing Koller in the chest but to be fair it looked like Koller had bin shot. So Turkey go through & the Czechs left wondering what has happened….
