Barcelona extended their lead at the top to six points, as Real Madrid slipped up yet again. Barcelona beat Sevilla 3-0, in Seville. Samuel Eto’o opened the scoring after 20 minutes. Lionel Messi made it to 2-0 after 78 minutes, to end the game as a contest. Sevilla had Luis Fabiano dismissed after 86 minutes, after he clashed with a Barcelona defender, off the ball. Lionel Messi secured his brace in the 90th minute, to give Barca an impressive 3-0 away victory.
Getafe beat Real 3-1 in the Madrid derby. The home side took an early lead through a Juan Albin header after 3 minutes. Albin made it 2-0 to Getafe after 47 minutes, on the counter attack. Javier Saviola scored in the 55th minute, to put Real back in the game. Real couldn’t find a way through the Getafe defence and Ikechukwu Uche secured a deserved 3-1 victory in the 82nd minute.

Villarreal are back to second in La Liga, after they won 2-1 at Recreativo. The Yellow Submarine took the lead on 27 minutes, as Santo Cazorla fired home. Ariel Ibagaza doubled that lead on the stroke of half-time, with an excellent free-kick. Adrian Colunga scored a consolation in the 82nd minute, from the penalty spot, but it wasn’t enough as they were defeated 2-1. Elsewhere Bilbao managed to jump out of the relegation places, with a 2-0 home victory over Numancia. Joseba Llorente opened the scoring after 6 minutes with a header from a free-kick. He then doubled his tally on 31 minutes, thanks to an assist from Javi Martinez.
Deportivo managed a 1-0 win at Almeria. The home side were reduced to ten men after 52 minutes, after Alvaro Negredo was sent off. Joan Verdu missed a penalty on 67 minutes but Verdu made up for that miss, by scoring the winner on 75 minutes. Sporting Gijon managed a 1-0 victory at Espanyol. The winner came from Gonzalo Carmelo after half an hour, when he smashed an effort into the corner of the net. Real Valladolid scored an easy 3-0 home victory, over Mallorca. Jose Calvo started the scoring after 29 minutes. Angel Vivar Dorado doubled the home sides lead, after 56 minutes from close range. Henok Goitom made it 3-0, after 66 minutes.
Malaga recorded a 4-2 home victory over Osasuna. After a goalless first half, the game burst into life in the 56st minute, when Antonio Apono scored from the penalty spot for the hosts. Malaga went 2-0 up on 62 minutes when Nabil Bahar headed home. Osasuna then made a remarkable recovery. Javad Nekounam scored Osasunas first after 79 minutes, with a header. Just two minutes later Miguel Flano equalised with another header. Albert Luque put Malaga back in front after 84 minutes. Pereira Eliseu clinched all three points for the islanders in the 90th minute.
Valencia managed to overcome having a player sent off, to beat Real Betis 3-2 at the Mestalla. Valencia was faster to come out the blocks and David villa fired them into the lead in the 10th minute. Valencia extended their lead in the 20th minute through Juan Mata, after a mazy run from the midfielder. Gomez Juanma gave Betis a lifeline with a 56st minute effort. It got even worse for Los Ches, as Carlos Marchena was dismissed in the 64th minute for a foul inside the area. Achille Emana coolly slotted home the penalty to equalise for Betis. The 10 men snatched all three points in the 73rd minute, through a Ruben Baraja header.
Atletico Madrid beat Racing Santander 4-1, at the Vicente Calderon Stadium. The visitors took the lead after only 7 minutes, through a penalty from Mohamed Tchite. The home side equalised in the 21st minute, through Simao’s strike. Racing then had Cesar Navas dismissed on 31 minutes. Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero made full use of the space and made it 2-1 in the 34th minute. Diego Forlan scored a brace with goals coming in the 78th and 81st minutes, to complete a convincing victory.
