Barcelona stretched their lead at the top of La Liga as they beat Real Mallorca 3-1 at the Camp Nou. Aritz Aduriz gave the visitors the lead after 15 minutes. Thierry Henry levelled the game on 32 minutes. Andres Iniesta gave Barca the lead in the 76th minute. Josemi was dismissed in the 90th minute and Yaya Toure score just afterwards to finish off Real Mallorca.

Valencia beat Atletico Madrid 3-1 at the Mestalla. Valencia now nine points behind Barcelona, took the lead after 33 minutes through a David Villa penalty, after they had already had two goals disallowed. Valencia’s second goal came from an excellent David Silva strike in the 39th minute. Atletico got a goal back on the stroke of half-time through a Diego Forlan penalty.  David Silva killed off any comeback with an excellent long range strike in the 69th minute.

Sunday 4th January 2009

Real Madrid beat Villarreal 1-0 at the Bernabeu and went into third place in the La Liga table. The goal came from a superb Arjen Robben strike in the 32nd minute. Real are still 12 points behind Barcelona.  Osasuna stole a draw at Sevilla 1-1. Jesus Navas gave the home side the lead after 50 minutes.  Walter Pandiani rescued a point in the final minute for the struggling visitors.

Recreativo Huelva claimed three valuable home points, as they beat Numancia 3-1. Jose Javier Barkero missed a penalty for Numancia, before Javi Fuego put Huelva into the lead after 18 minutes.  It got even worse for Numancia as Javier Camunas added a second in the 46st minute and Aitor made it three after 61 minutes. Gorka Brit then missed Numancia’s second penalty, before scoring a consolation goal in the 90th minute.

Athletic Bilbao drew at home with Espanyol 1-1. Moises Hurtado gave the visitors the lead after 37 minutes. Andoni Iraola saved the point for Bilbao with an 81st minute strike. Malaga gained a crucial three points with a 1-0 victory at home to Sporting Gijon. The goal came from Manuel Lolo after 34 minutes. Racing Santander beat Real Valladolid 1-0 away from home. Nicola Zigic scored the winner in the 64th minute. Almeria also collected three points at home to Real Betis with a 1-0 victory. Manuel Corona scored the only goal of the game in the 35th minute.

Juande Ramos recorded his first victory as Real Madrid manager as his side beat rivals Valencia 1-0 at the Bernabeu. The winner came early on from Gonzalo Higuain after just three minutes.  The Argentine finishing after Arjen Robben had went on a mazy run. It looked as though there would be more goals but none of the chances materialised, as Real moved within a point of Valencia.

The late kick brought more drama and goals. Atletico Madrid claimed a vital 3-2 away victory at Espanyol. Maxi Rodriguez opened the scoring against his old club after just seven minutes. Sergio Sanchez hit back for Espanyol in the 58th minute. Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero fired Atletico back into the lead with nine minutes remaining. Maxi Rodriguez scored his second and Atleticos third in injury time to secure all three points. There was still time for Valmiro Valdo to score a consolation goal for Espanyol.

Sunday 21st December 2008

Barcelona went ten points clear at the top of La Liga, by beating Villarreal 2-1 at El Madrigal. Cani chipped the home side into the lead on 48 minutes. Seydou Keita scrambled home the equaliser in the 52nd minute for Barca. Thierry Henry volleyed home the winner in the 67th minute.  Barca had Gerard Pique dismissed for two bookable offences with fifteen minutes remaining. Villarreal put Barca under heavy pressure but couldn’t find an equaliser.

Sevilla could only manage a 0-0 draw at Real Mallorca. The point was enough to take them into second place. Deportivo beat Recreativo Huelva 4-1 at La Riazor. Alberto Lopo gave Depor the lead after 10 minutes. Sergio Gonzales doubled Depor’s lead from the penalty spot after 20 minutes. Adrian Colunga scored from the spot for Recre after 24 minutes.  Depor regained their two goal advantage after 44 minutes through a Rodolfo Bodipo header. Luis Felipe rounded off the scoring in the last minute to make it a comfortable victory for the home side.

Numancia came back from two goals down to beat Valladolid 4-3. Jose Barkero put the home side ahead in the 12th minute. Valladolid then took complete control with goals from Henok Goitom in the 34th minute, then a Rubio Alvaro goal in the 53rd minute. Goitom doubled his tally on 76 minutes. Numancia scored in the 85th minute through Javier Del Pino and Carlos Aranda scored an unlikely equaliser in the 88th minute. Gorka Brit scored a vital injury time winner.

Struggling Osasuna recorded a 5-2 home victory over Getafe. Jaroslav Plasil gave Osasuna the lead after 7 minutes. Juanfran doubled Osasunas lead after 30 minutes. Walter Pandiani made it 3-0 after 43 minutes. Javad Nekounam made it 4-0 on the stroke of halt-time. Roberto Soldado gave Getafe a consolation on 65 minutes.  Hector Font made it 5-1 to Osasuna in the 81st minute. Soldado scored his second in the 90th minute to make it 5-2.

Racing Santander drew 1-1 with Malaga. Nabil Baha gave Malaga the lead just before half-time. Juan Valera equalised for Racing after 68 minutes. Sporting Gijon beat Almeria 1-0. Francisco Maldonado scored the only goal in the 27th minute. Athletic claimed a 1-0 win against Real Betis in Seville. Javi Martinez scored the only goal after 43 minutes.

Spanish La Liga Round Fifteen

Saturday 13th December

Barcelona stepped closer to the La Liga crown as they beat bitter rivals Real Madrid 2-0 in El Clasico at the Camp Nou. Two late goals earned Barca the victory. Samuel Eto’o had a penalty kick saved by Iker Casillas but wasn’t to be denied as he struck Barcas first goal in the 83rd minute.  Lionel Messi clinched the victory in the 90th minute.  It was Former Tottenham manager Juande Ramos’s first game in charge and he has a mountain to climb if Real are going to win La Liga.

In the other Saturday game Valencia beat Espanyol 2-1 at the Mestalla. The visitors took the lead after Roman Martinez gave them a 29th minute lead. Espanyol were reduced to 10 men after 39 minutes, as former Los Ches midfielder Francisco Rufete was dismissed. Raul Albiol fired Valencia level after 58 minutes. Substitute Vicente then scored the winner in the 81st minute to keep Valencia right up there in the race for La Liga.

Sunday 14th December 2008

In the big game of Sunday, Sevilla beat Villarreal 1-0 to secure three vitals points. Renato scored the winning goal just before the half-time break. Any chance of Villarreal getting back into game disappeared in the 53rd minute as Joseba Llorente was dismissed. Atletico Madrid beat Real Betis 2-0 to go ahead of rivals Real into fifth spot. Atletico took the lead after 20 through a Maxi Rodriguez strike. Sergio Aguero confirmed the victory with a strike in the 80th minute.

Real Valladolid beat Deportivo 3-0. Valladolid took the lead after 15 minutes through Jonathan Sesma. Valladolid doubled their lead after 26 minutes courtesy of a Pedro Lopez strike. Pedro Leon completed the scoring with a goal on 56 minutes. Valladolid now hasn’t lost for five games. Recreativo Huelva scored a crucial 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Osasuna. Adrian struck the winner in the 86st minute, to secure three vital points for Recre.

Getafe managed a 4-1 home victory over struggling Real Mallorca. Cosmin Contra gave the home side the lead after 13 minutes and Ikechukwu Uche doubled that lead after 31 minutes. The visitors hit back just a minute after the second goal through Aritz Aduriz. Getafe restored the two goal advantage through a goal from Manu del Mora in the 71st minute. Jaime Gavilan struck the fourth after 87 minutes to give Getafe a comprehensive win.

Athletic Bilbao recorded an easy 3-0 home win over Sporting Gijon. Fernando Llorente gave Bilbao the lead after just 6 minutes from the penalty spot. Andoni Iraola struck to make it 2-0 after 22 minutes and David Lopez completed the scoring after 32 minutes. Almeria drew 1-1 with Racing Santander. Ezequiel Garay gave the visitors the lead after 33 minutes. Almeria hit back in the 62 minute through Santiago Acasiete to end a losing run off three games. Malaga beat Numancia 2-0 but left it very late Antonio Apono scoring in the 85th minute and Nabil Baha adding a second in the 89th minute.

Barcelona beat Valencia 4-0, in the big game of La Liga this weekend. Thierry Henry gave Barca the lead after 20 minutes, he then added his second after 28 minutes.  Daniel Alves struck to me make it 3-0 just after half-time. Thierry Henry completed his hat-trick in the 79th minute, to make it a convincing victory.

Getafe raced into a three goals lead at Villarreal. Esteban Granero gave the visitors the lead after 10 minutes. Jaime Gavilan doubled Getafe’s lead after 18 minutes. Getafe were then in dreamland, as Francisco Casquero gave them a three goal lead after 29 minutes. Villarreal rallied in the second half and made an amazing comeback. Robert Pires scored in the 55th minute to get Villarreal back into the game. Sebastien Eguren scored a second in the 83rd minute and Giuseppe completed the fantastic comeback with an 86st minute equaliser.

Atletico Madrid won 5-2 at Sporting Gijon. Mate Bilic gave the Sporting the lead after only 3 minutes. Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero gave Atletico an equaliser on 6 minutes.  Aguero scored his second in the 44th minute. Diego Forlan extended the visitors lead in the 54th minute.  David Barral scored to put the home side back in the game on 63 minutes. Atletico however managed to score to more goals. Maxi Rodriguez scored in the 73rd minute to make it 4-2 and Diego Forlan scored the fifth in the 80th minute.

Sunday 7th December 2008

Deportivo continued their fine form as they beat Malaga 2-0. The home side opened the scoring in the 65th minute through Angel Lafita. Omar Bravo sealed the points for Depor in the 69th minute. Recreativo Huelva recorded a 3-2 home victory over Real Mallorca. Recreativo took the lead after 16 minutes. Mallorca hit back through Marco Ruben after 25 minutes. Mallorca took the lead on 36 minutes through Jose Manuel Jurado. Perez Adrian Colunga then equalised for Recreativo in the 43rd minute.  Recre claim three vital points in the 53rd minute through a Martinez Javi Fuego strike.

Numancia also claim a valuable home victory, beating Almeria 2-1. Esteban Solari gave the visitors the lead after 12 minute from the penalty spot. Javier Del Pino levelled the score on 20 minutes. Asier Goiria gave Numancia the lead after 52 minutes. That goal proved the winner, it wasn’t all good for the home side however as Jose Barkero was dismissed in the 69th minute. Racing could only manage a 1-1 home draw against Athletic Bilbao. Francisco Yeste gave Bilbao the lead after 49 minutes.  Bilbao was reduced to 10 men in the 77th minute as Pablo Orbaiz was dismissed. Bilbao couldn’t hold on as Gonzalo Colsa equalised for Racing in the 83rd minute.

Osasuna drew 3-3 with Valladolid. Dady scored in the 18th minute to give Osasuna the lead. Javad Nekounam doubled Osasunas lead after 43 minutes. Dady scored his second in the 57th minute to give Osasuna a 3-0 lead. It looked enough for all three points but Valladolid had other ideas. Henok Goitom scored after 60 minutes to give them hope. In the 65th minute Miguel Flano found his own net to make it 3-2. Valladolid completed their remarkable comeback in the 86st minute, with a goal from Bartholomew Ogbeche.

Real Betis and Espanyol drew 1-1 in Seville.  Real Betis had the better of the game and missed some great chances.  Achille Emana did finally give them the lead after 57 minutes, atoning for two bad misses. Espanyol never looked like getting back into the game, until Ferron ‘Coro’ Corominas scored in the 71st minute. Both teams pushed for a winner but neither could find the net.

In a fantastic game at the Bernabeu, Sevilla defeated Real Madrid 4-3. Adriano gave Sevilla the lead after three minutes. Raul headed home after 19 minutes to equalise for Real. Romaric headed Sevilla back into the lead after 22 minutes. Freddie Kanoute extended Sevilla’s lead on 38 minutes. Real made a terrific comeback in the second half.  Gonzalo Higuain made it 3-2 after 67 minutes, before Fernando Gago equalised on 69 minutes. It all went wrong for Real in the 77th minute as Arjen Robben was dismissed for two bookable offences.  Renato snatched the victory for Sevilla with a strike in the 85th minute.

Spanish La Liga Round Thirteen

Barcelona extended their lead at the top to six points, as Real Madrid slipped up yet again. Barcelona beat Sevilla 3-0, in Seville.  Samuel Eto’o opened the scoring after 20 minutes. Lionel Messi made it to 2-0 after 78 minutes, to end the game as a contest. Sevilla had Luis Fabiano dismissed after 86 minutes, after he clashed with a Barcelona defender, off the ball. Lionel Messi secured his brace in the 90th minute, to give Barca an impressive 3-0 away victory.

Getafe beat Real 3-1 in the Madrid derby. The home side took an early lead through a Juan Albin header after 3 minutes. Albin made it 2-0 to Getafe after 47 minutes, on the counter attack. Javier Saviola scored in the 55th minute, to put Real back in the game.  Real couldn’t find a way through the Getafe defence and Ikechukwu Uche secured a deserved 3-1 victory in the 82nd minute.

Sunday 30th November 2008

Villarreal are back to second in La Liga, after they won 2-1 at Recreativo. The Yellow Submarine took the lead on 27 minutes, as Santo Cazorla fired home. Ariel Ibagaza doubled that lead on the stroke of half-time, with an excellent free-kick.  Adrian Colunga scored a consolation in the 82nd minute, from the penalty spot, but it wasn’t enough as they were defeated 2-1. Elsewhere Bilbao managed to jump out of the relegation places, with a 2-0 home victory over Numancia. Joseba Llorente opened the scoring after 6 minutes with a header from a free-kick.  He then doubled his tally on 31 minutes, thanks to an assist from Javi Martinez.

Deportivo managed a 1-0 win at Almeria. The home side were reduced to ten men after 52 minutes, after Alvaro Negredo was sent off.  Joan Verdu missed a penalty on 67 minutes but Verdu made up for that miss, by scoring the winner on 75 minutes.  Sporting Gijon managed a 1-0 victory at Espanyol. The winner came from Gonzalo Carmelo after half an hour, when he smashed an effort into the corner of the net. Real Valladolid scored an easy 3-0 home victory, over Mallorca. Jose Calvo started the scoring after 29 minutes. Angel Vivar Dorado doubled the home sides lead, after 56 minutes from close range. Henok Goitom made it 3-0, after 66 minutes.

Malaga recorded a 4-2 home victory over Osasuna. After a goalless first half, the game burst into life in the 56st minute, when Antonio Apono scored from the penalty spot for the hosts. Malaga went 2-0 up on 62 minutes when Nabil Bahar headed home. Osasuna then made a remarkable recovery. Javad Nekounam scored Osasunas first after 79 minutes, with a header.  Just two minutes later Miguel Flano equalised with another header. Albert Luque put Malaga back in front after 84 minutes. Pereira Eliseu clinched all three points for the islanders in the 90th minute.

Valencia managed to overcome having a player sent off, to beat Real Betis 3-2 at the Mestalla.  Valencia was faster to come out the blocks and David villa fired them into the lead in the 10th minute. Valencia extended their lead in the 20th minute through Juan Mata, after a mazy run from the midfielder. Gomez Juanma gave Betis a lifeline with a 56st minute effort.  It got even worse for Los Ches, as Carlos Marchena was dismissed in the 64th minute for a foul inside the area. Achille Emana coolly slotted home the penalty to equalise for Betis. The 10 men snatched all three points in the 73rd minute, through a Ruben Baraja header.

Atletico Madrid beat Racing Santander 4-1, at the Vicente Calderon Stadium. The visitors took the lead after only 7 minutes, through a penalty from Mohamed Tchite. The home side equalised in the 21st minute, through Simao’s strike. Racing then had Cesar Navas dismissed on 31 minutes. Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero made full use of the space and made it 2-1 in the 34th minute. Diego Forlan scored a brace with goals coming in the 78th and 81st minutes, to complete a convincing victory.
